The only way I can stay mentally, physically and e The only way I can stay mentally, physically and emotionally fit is through good habits.

My experience as a mother, professional dancer, business owner, Pilates teacher and athlete has taught me this very important lesson.

Developing and maintaining good habits is the only path to success. I strived to model this for my son, my past employees and students and my current clients.

At Lee Pilates Method I’ve created an environment that supports best practices in every area of life. We share our successful habits and encourage one another to avoid those that derail us.

Pilates is excellent for improving digestion. The Pilates is excellent for improving digestion. The mind/body focus of working all the muscles of the trunk (core) through and with breath can release tension, stimulate digestion and reduce inflammation.

Here are 3 exercises that can help:

1️⃣Start with Three part breathing. Breathe into your belly, then your ribs, then your upper shoulders and back. Exhale the same way. This exercise is stimulating for the digestive system and calming for the nervous system.

2️⃣In Roll Up you are articulating your spine through flexion and extension. Using your breath throughout the movement both stimulates and relaxes the abdominal region.

3️⃣In Criss Cross the rotation of the spine is helpful for digestion. Move from your waist, not from your shoulders.

When I heard this quote I thought- how right is th When I heard this quote I thought- how right is this!

When I pay attention, learn from my mistakes and apply what I learn - I handle hard better the next time it comes. And this I know for sure - hard is going to come.

The same can be applied to my clients at Lee Pilates Method.

When they first learn a new movement or movement sequence, it seems hard and maybe too challenging for their brains to consider.

But with practice, focus and a willingness to learn, they get better and stronger. They handle hard better. Physically, mentally and emotionally.

3️⃣ things I’ve learned in my 30 years in th 3️⃣ things I’ve learned in my 30 years in the fitness and Pilates industry:

Throughout the years of working in fitness, dance, and Pilates, these are most important lessons I’ve learned:

1️⃣ we must connect the brain to the body through brain mapping.
2️⃣ the body gets better at what it does repetitively.
3️⃣ we can’t do it alone!

The first founding principal at Lee Pilates Method The first founding principal at Lee Pilates Method is Neuromuscular Reeducation.

What does this mean? It means that all muscles, whether moving or stabilizing a joint, must connect to the brain in order to “turn on”.

Our larger primary muscles can inhibit some of the smaller stabilizing muscles. They move a joint before the stabilizers have activated. This can cause instability and injury.

To properly activate less dominant or smaller muscles, meticulous, repetitive and precise movements must be practiced regularly.

This helps the brain both recognize and activate these muscles before the larger, more powerful muscles take over. In Pilates this is called movement integration.

All movement starts with your brain.

Why? Everything you have ever felt or done is due to brain function.

The body can NOT move or strengthen a muscle if the brain can not activate it.

Every moment of every day your brain is receiving millions of electrical and chemical signals from your nerve endings for processing and interpreting how you will move.

The clearer the signals, the better your movement will be. If these signals are impeded with misaligned posture, compensatory movement, stress or poor motor control, your brain develops a fuzzy proprioceptive “map”.

In order to develop balance and strength, we need to CONNECT our brain to our body properly. This is where Pilates comes in handy, to help you gain strength, mobility, and prevent injuries!

Plantar flexion refers to pointing the foot. This Plantar flexion refers to pointing the foot. This movement is crucial in many actions.

In gait, or walking, plantar flexion occurs when one foot pushes off the ground (toe off). In Pilates plantar flexion is a common and recurring foot position.

It is part of the protocol used to put the foot and ankle through full range of motion to increase both strength and mobility. Many movement modalities do not include the feet in physical training.

However, Pilates is mostly performed barefooted allowing for the integration of strong foot mechanics into overall training.

Many exercises are performed specifically for the feet, providing consistent brain mapping to that important area of the body.

Strong, stable feet and ankles are crucial for overall health and well being.

⬇️More about Pilates planks ⬇️ Front Supp ⬇️More about Pilates planks ⬇️

Front Support is a classic Pilates planking exercise. In a plank position bend one knee pulling it directly under the hip then straighten back. Keep shoulders stable, core strong and head in line with the spine.

Leg Pull Front is another classic Pilates plank exercise. Set this exercise up the same as the first one. Lift and lower straight leg, extending the hip. Don’t sag the pelvis or spine when lifting the leg.

The Combo puts the two together, adding a round back in a kneeling position, pulling the knee toward the chest. Extend leg and lift to a plank position.
